Iceland tour Day 1: Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Ytri Tunga beach and seal colony

Here there were a lot of rocks, also some ducks and seals scattered around.

Búðakirkja, the Black Church of Búðir

Here there isn’t much, just a danish style church and a hotel.

Rauðfeldar Canyon

Here we hiked through the big dent in the cliff, wich was carved by the river. The water was cold and had a really strong current.

Here we hiked across the harbor to the restaurant, and on the way we saw a 20 meter deep hole. We also got some cool pics. Game of Thrones location. (See Game of Thrones locations below.)

Saxhóll volcanic crater

Here we walked up the side of the crater, and I went down into the crater. Before I went into the crater I asked the guide if it was a good idea and he said:

err-eeh maybe

so I went.

Should I?

Djúpalónssandur, beach of black volcanic sand

Here, as you would think there is a black beach that you have to hike to. There was also a mini cave with rocks in it. There were also rocks to test your strength. I was an amlóði. Translation: weakling.

Kirkjufell, “The Church Mountain”, and Kirkjufellfoss waterfall

Here is where there was a Game of Thrones scene. While we were walking towards the waterfall/foss, the guide told us the water was drinkable/edible?

  1. Wow! This is AMAZING! I am going to have to do some research but off the top of my head I would say season 7, Beyond the Wall is one?

    You are so brave!!!

      1. It’s the 66th episode. Season 7, episode 6! I know it’s in another one, too, but I’ll have to Google it. It’s when the Hound looks into the fire!

  2. This is like a virtual geocache!
“In the show it is known as Arrowhead mountain and it appears in episode 5 of season 6 when the heroes go north of the wall and episode 6 of season seven when the children of the forest created the first White Walker.”
